Andy
Bacuzzi and his wife Janet have been members of Holy Family for the
past seventeen years. Andy was born in Mexico and moved to Haiti at
five years old. He lived there as a young boy and still has childhood
friends in Haiti. Andy speaks five languages, Spanish, French, Creole,
English (his fourth language) and Italian . He is now retired. He
worked in computer sales and service. Andy is a member of the Knights
of Columbus at Holy Family. When the Knights gave a $2,000 grant to TQ
in support of St. Jude’s, Andy offered his services as a translator for
the parish connection to Haiti. He became the “communicator” for Pere
Frederick, the pastor at St. Jude’s, who did not speak English. Pere
Frederick recently passed away. Andy and Pere Frederick had formed a
close and lasting friendship. Andy has helped in establishing the
school and presbyter at St. Judes in Baptiste, helped acquire property,
establish the internet service in Baptiste and assisted Dave Plum on
the Water Project. We are pleased to highlight Andy for his
contribution to
St.
Jude’s in Haiti on behalf of Holy Family. Thank you Andy. Andy tells us
that this has been his opportunity to give back after his work career.
There is a plaque that will be placed in his honor at the base of the
new Water Fountain in Baptiste.
Andy
asks us to remind ourselves not to start anything in Haiti that we
cannot continue to support, like the school. We have an ongoing need to
support the teachers. Education is the way to the future. He says that
“economic conditions are dire and that we need to focus on means of
creating employment opportunities for the future.” Thank you Andy for
your gift to the parish in creating a lasting connection with our
brothers an sisters at St. Jude’s Church and school in Baptiste, Haiti.
Next edition of our Haiti Newsletter we will focus on Fr. Cassangnol, the new pastor at St. Jude’s.
